Marketing Products
3. When considering whether or not to purchase something, I definitely consider it's brand and who made it. To be honest, one of the first quidlines I go by is choosing a product from a trustworthy company. So yes, unfortunately I'm a brand shopper. However, I'm not necessarily devoted to one brand. But when I'm purchasing anything, I chose the more famous, larger company. For instance, 9 times out of 10, i would purchase a pair of Nike soccer shorts over a pair of Reebok shorts, even if the nike pair costs 10 dollars more. My devotions to certain brands can be considered logical because I am "devoted" to the well-known brands that are trustworthy. So in a way, if they are high end companies, they have many guidlines to follow which would ensure that they are logically, good companies and brands. But my loyalty for them is definitely not logical, because I chose brands just for trends, or symbols such as the nike swoosh that I want to wear. Even though it's not logical I, and almost the entire population still purchase from big, well-known companies not considering their price or quality. In my opinion, and for me, I still buy from my expensive lovemarks because it's a trend and I know I'm not alone when purchasing it.
Marketing Culture
2. This question proposes a very good point. When purchasing any object, it's definitely has to "fit" me and my style and personality. So where this question is trying to get at, yes, i feel a sense of identity from what i wear and what i purchase. With almost everything I buy, the comercial, or advertisement must appeal to me. So marketing, therefore, plays a huge role in my identity because it has to fit my personality for me to buy it. Also, what I buy determines who i hang out with and where i go, or maybe vise versa. My friends determine generally what i wear because cliques all dress the same.
Marketing Politics
1. Promoting an uninformed citizen that feel pleasure coulp possible create a society where everyone acts the same and looks the same. Luntz could possible just be destroying variety among the people. With people not really thinking about the product and the company, they just feel that what they're buying is cool and they feel good about it so then they purchase it. If everyone were to just purchase what makes them feel good, we'd all be just going by our sense not by our conscience. Then that could lead to other things that people may not think about. It could lead to citizens that don't think for themselves and just go by living in a trend. So basically then, marketers and advertisements would rule the society's lives.

Propaganda/ Media Literacy Portfolio Project
This is simply a magazine article advertising a sports car made by Audi. This article is trying to persuade me to by this car, or maybe just a car by Audi. They hope by showing this high quality car, it will make me want to by a car from them, knowing how "cool" or "stylish" it looks. As this company is expensive, this article was most likely in a magazine targeted for middle to higher class people that are occupied and are successful. The ages of around 30-40, and then also 60-70 are targeted, either for successful middle-aged people, or older couples that are retired and have money saved up. Also, males are more interested in cars, so this may be found in a magazine such as ESPN that appeals to men. This advertisement uses a tactic called logos, as it gives specific facts and statistics. In the bottom left hand corner is the informative that this specific car reaches 100mph in 5.1 seconds. Knowing that incredible speed, the audience can see that pathos is also used, as this car is shown to be faster than the speed of light because its headlights are behind it. Speed and this slick looking car always appeal to males especially and frankly, most women. These tactics are used because most men love speed, especially in good-looking cars which is what exactly is shown here.
Personally, I've seen most Apple iPod advertisements on television, varying channels with shows appealing to all ages, but this specific adverisement most likely meant for teens and people in their early 20's. However, this ad could be easily found in a magazine. The iPod is advertised here, which is a nation-wide known product. It simply wants me to buy it. As I said, iPods are meant for all ages and advertisements are found in medias with audiences of middle to upper-class people of all ages. The iPod comercials, such as this, use repetition. There is always a brightly colored background, such as pink, orange, blue, or green, and a black person always holding a white iPod with white headphones. And all of these comercials show the person "rocking out" and fully enjoying their music and iPod which is an example of pathos, as everyone wants to be happy and enjoy their music like this figure is. This has become a very powerful advertisement, as most of the population can determine this is an iPod comercial based on the repetition used over time.
This advertisement for a vacation most likely is out of a brocure, or is a flyer by itself. Information centers would most likely carry this informative. This ad is trying to persuade me to visit Sheridan, Wyoming and be forced to spend money and time in their city. An advertisement like this one is definitely meant and targeted for middle-age to older couples with some extra time and money to spend elsewhere on a vacation. With activities like golf, fishing, and horse-back riding being advertised, people who need a break and want to leisurely enjoy themselves are the main audience for a flyer promoting this kind of vacation. As the brightest and biggest object; emotionally loaded words like "Enjoy the Extraordinary" are used to get the attention to the flyer. Then pathos is used in the pictures of the several activities available in this one city. As the audience are older people, pathos is used to try and appeal to them as they are the kind of people that are looking for a great, pleasureable vacation. So, this flyer tries to get their vote by including all the different activites as well as the "History" and "Culture" that can be discovered.
This advertisement was found on an online magazine which sells outdoor gear. This specific ad is just for the audience to consider the brand Dakine for their next purchase on outdoor gear. Dakine, known for their snowboard gear, and popular backpacks, is appealing to kids my age to mid 20's who are still intersted in snowboarding and the outdoors. Also, their backpacks are not the highest quality, but are known for their style which appeal to mainly only middle school and high school students. With variety and color, this advertisement uses a mix of pathos and ethos. With bright, catching colors and random pictures and symbols to catch the attention of the viewer, they can then look harder what company is advertising, and what the theme is. This advertisement is based on snowboarding and proffesional snowboarders who apparently use Dakine's gear. The subjects like Gretchen Bleiler and Tyler Lepore, who are professional snowboarders, help to sell the products as people want to buy gear used by pro's. This is where the tactic "ethos" comes in. Because it's true, everyone wants to be like the professionals. These two tactics are used as students needed their emotions triggered just to give their attention (pathos), and then to realize their not alone in bying the product (ethos) which almost always will sell the product.
This advertisement is found in sports magazines that promote exercise such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated. An ad like this wants me to purchase Gatorade the drink for every time I exercise or work out. Gatorade appeals to all ages, types of people and size, if they exercise, it's for them. However, as Gatorade is well-known in the younger generations, most older people most like won't use Gatorade, so it is mainly targeting students over the age of 10 to 12 to ages 40-50 who generally stop exercising abundantly. The words "Thirst Quencher" are well known words showing repetition, and these words are an example of pathos as people need something to quench their thirst at a time or another. Also, more emotionally loaded words are used, "Proven on the field" which appeal to competitive people who need the reassurance that something in proven to help them in their performance. Powerful words like these, and pathos are great tactics to sell a product to highly active young people as they need their feelings to be postive (pathos) and need the statements to help make their final decision as many are choosy.
A magazine advertisement is shown here which is trying to sell Burton snowboarding gear. Basically, as this ad uses a subject to help sell their products, it appeals to whatever the age of the person used might be. Therefore, as Burton is a company for younger people, this ad targets students in high school as well as people, like this girl Victoria who are in their lower 20's. Also, as Burton is a well-known high end snowboarding company, this ad is meant for people with weathy families as thier gear is expensive. Pathos is used in the picture of the snowboarder (Victoria), as young adults want to snowboard just like the girl/person shown in the picture. Also, the tactic ethos is used with the informative about Victoria, and then also in her portrait. Because again, people will more likely buy the product if some professional has the gear for themselves. For young adults, reassurance is needed, so ethos is incredibly persuasive and successful as students will feel like they are "cool" and not by themselves if some other person, a pro at that, has and uses the same gear.

DIDLS-Beasts of England
Beasts of England
Diction = "golden future time" This phrase definitely grabs my attention showing the animals' unity in their future, and how it will be a "golden time". "Shall be trod by beasts alone" A statement like this can be mean nothing else but how their ultimate goal is to diminish the human race in order to gain respect for themselves and regain peace. "Beasts" they refer to them as beasts as they believe someday they will be rulers and totally populate the globe, with themselves only. This word makes a dramatic statement.
Imagery = "Bright will shine the fields of England" By reading this, it puts this picture into my head of the shine shining bright onto the fields as the metaphor of peacefulness and victory for the "beasts" of England. In another context, i can see this statement as the animals all standing proud and strong at their farms across the country on perfect, untouched fields without any traces of humans of any sort. "Purer shall it's waters be" I see the picture of a gentle, calm river with the reflexion of the sun and all the healthy, green trees. With no man-made pollution, and clear skies, the "beasts of england" rule the countryside with equality and peace among all of them.
Details = "Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland" In detail, the animals of these countries will be the ones to start the revolution against the human race. As leaders, these "beasts" will stand alone on their own farms, under their own rules. "Tyrant man shall be o'erthrown" The tyrant man will be conquered by the beasts. The beasts see mankind as tyrants or "single rulers" and are out to destroy them, and as they see it, they will be they tyrants someday.
Language = "And the harness from our back...Cruel whips no more shall crack" This chant is more of a rythmatic poem, with a set number of syllables on each line. This poem seems to be written for a generally young age, with simple words and simple metaphors to manipulate.
Sentence Structure = As this is a poem, there's one sentence per phrase, and there are pauses after each thought of point. The structure is "parallel" as after each pause there is a new statement or thought. So, this poem is made up of several fragments that all tie together as "the beasts of england" overall.
Overall Tone: This poem is written for the future, as what the present generations of animals are trying to work for, for their kids and grandkids to live under themselves and not under the rule of humans. This can be considered as more of a dream or wish that hopefully they are able to turn into reality if future years, to be the "golden future".
